Go-cart Accident Takes Life Of Elk Grove Boy

February 21, 2006

An Elk Grove boy celebrating his 11th birthday Sunday died when the go-cart in which he was riding hit a retaining wall and rolled over, critically injuring him.

The accident happened in Vacaville. The California Highway Patrol said that Ronit Sumer was riding in a two-seat go-cart with a 16-year-old on a driveway. The go-cart bumped into a retaining wall and overturned on its side.

Even though the go-cart had a roll bar it wasn't enough to prevent the boy, who was not wearing a helmet, from hitting his head. The boy was transported to University of California Davis Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries in the accident.
