According to California Highway Patrol, two motorcyclists were severely injured and another four were also hurt in a four-motorcycle crash on state Highway 1 just north of Pescadero State Beach.
According to offier O'Day, the four motorcycles had been traveling north together on the highway when two of the bikes stopped behind a vehicle preparing to make a left turn onto Pescadero Creek Road.
Two other motorcyclists trailing behind the first two bikes reportedly realized too late that traffic had stopped ahead of them and crashed into the two bikes waiting behind the car, O'Day said.
Two of the motorcycles involved in the crash were carrying both a driver and a passenger.
Two helicopters transported five of the six accident victims to Stanford Hospital for treatment.
The most severely injured victim was a man who suffered multiple bone fractures and head trauma. That victim's wounds could be life-threatening, said Mr. O'Day this afternoon.
Another victim suffered rib fractures, a collapsed lung and face trauma, officer O'Day said.
