Authorities have released the name of the motorist killed in a collision on Highway 101 Wednesday, as new details emerged about the violent crash.
Officer Ryan O'Day of the California Highway Patrol said that Arlene Galapin, 45, was headed south just past Highway 92, when she lost control of her Geo Prizm and collided with a GMC Denali traveling alongside her.
The collision forced the GMC, driven by 29-year-old East Palo Alto resident Latu Takitaki, off the road and into a sound wall.
The Geo, meanwhile, was running in the other direction and collided with a GMC 1500, driven by Michael Wischer, 19, of San Mateo, O'Day said.
Galapin was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as factors in the crash, O'Day said.
