A dramatic rollover crash involving three sport-utility vehicles closed all but one lane of northbound Interstate 680 near Pacheco Boulevard for a couple of hours Wednesday night.
About 7:45 p.m., a black Nissan Pathfinder pulled over behind a dark-colored Suburban on the right-hand shoulder of northbound I-680, just south of the Pacheco Boulevard off-ramp.
California Highway Patrol Officer Brandon Montgomery said that the driver of the Pathfinder, a private contractor for OnStar road service, was assisting the Suburban.
At that time a new model silver Lexus inexplicably drifted over at speeds in excess of 60 mph, plowing into the Pathfinder, which slammed into the Suburban.
The Lexus flipped end-over-end before coming to rest on its roof facing traffic in the middle of the freeway, Montgomery said.
The OnStar worker, who was standing outside his Pathfinder at impact, was thrown up the hill.
Both the worker and the Lexus driver were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with moderate injuries.
The occupants of the Suburban were not injured.
Shortly before the accident the California Highway Patrol(CHP) received complaints that the Lexus had been driving recklessly, Montgomery said.
Authorities had no further details Wednesday night.
