A man was killed Sunday evening in a hit-and-run accident in Salinas, the third time a pedestrian has been struck in the city in less than a month.
Police said the pedestrian was hit around 7 p.m. on East Alisal Street near Murphy Street. As of late Sunday evening, detectives said they were working with the coroner's office to try to identify him.
Police said they were also searching for the vehicle and its driver.
Earlier in the month, two other pedestrians were left in life-threatening comas in early-morning accidents.
Jim Maloney, a Mission Park Elementary School crossing guard, was hit by a car on Jan. 12 and remains near death in a coma, said his wife, Beverly.
On Jan. 6, a still-unidentified man was hit around 6 a.m. at East Alisal and Towt streets, suffering serious injuries. That man also remains in a coma.
