A San Francisco police car hit and injured a pedestrian Wednesday on Market Street after the victim stepped off a Municipal Railway bus island.
The victim, a 51-year-old man, suffered a head injury and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital after being struck at 11:39 a.m. at Seventh and Market streets.
The officer, whose name was not available, was driving 10 mph on Market and had yelled a greeting to another officer on the sidewalk just before he struck the man, said Inspector Pat Tobin of the hit-and-run detail.
The victim stepped off the Muni island against a red light, Tobin said. The inspector said the man was cut on the back of his head
